Yeah, I know some of you are freaking out ’cause I used an “X” instead of Christ. Not to worry. Many of you know it stands for “Christ,” as in Greek. Gotcha! I love this time of the year. The smells, the laughter…the crowds, the anger, the pushing and shoving, the debt, the anxiety, oh sorry. What happened to me? Got carried away there for a moment.
I do love this time, all kidding aside. The music. What ever happened to the true Christmas songs that were so prevalent many years ago? We don’t seem to have many songwriters doing justice to the season, do we? “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” is one of my favorites. Home. That’s what Christmas time is about. And to think Jesus left His “home” at Christmas, so we could find our “home.” And then there’s that longing in our hearts for home. A true home. A place of real love, and acceptance. Maybe we never really get there, till we’re there. All the music of Christmas reminds me that we will find “home” eventually. Until then, maybe it will be “only in my dreams.”
Christmas time brings glimpses of what that real Christ-mass will be like: laughter, love, happiness, giggles, surprises, new smells, old friends and family. What a day, as Phil Keaggy used to sing.
Until that time, we can enjoy the season. We can laugh, hoot, and just be ourselves with family and friends. Merry Christmas folks! Hope you have a grand one!
