I’ve read a couple of books lately that have been hard to swallow. We have a new crew of atheists making the rounds, writing the books, making the money, and showing up on TV. What makes them different is their outright attack on people of faith. They even attribute religious experience to an epileptic gene. It’s amazing. Between Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins, “The God Delusion” and “The End of Faith,” they forge an all out intellectual war on any of us who claim to believe in God, or even a god. I was waiting to see when Dawkins would mention C.S. Lewis, which finally he did saying Lewis should have known better than to say Jesus was either a lunatic or Lord, no in-betweens.
They are trying hard to break into the postmodern pluralism with a new kind of atheism, a sexy Darwinism that might entice the masses away from seeking a religious experience and instead revel in the beauty of morphing from a blob to a brain. Natural selection. Seems almost contradictory. I like supernatural selection better…”In while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”
Colbert interviewed Dawkins and it was hilarious. There is humor in this debate but what they are warning the world about is we. They don’t believe we should be raising our children to believe in God, and even, as I understand it, believe it’s dangerous.
Let’s not shy away from this exchange but face it with the love of Christ, and also firm conviction. What an amazing time to be alive!
