Went to a Promise Keepers gathering this past weekend. It’s been about 7 or more years I guess since I’ve been to one. That one was a memorable one. I attended with my two sons those seven or so years ago. Wow. Now some years down the road I find myself thinking back to that hot weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Sitting in the stands with my sons, and listening to the speakers, worshipping together, was just a real memory-maker. At one point in the meeting, the speaker asked us to gather with those around us and “confess our sins.” Say what!? So, here we go. It was one of those very special moments in your life that you will remember forever. You know how it goes, “How truthful do I want to be? I mean these are my sons!” But, we turned toward one another and began to call to mind (it didn’t take that long!) the things we’ve struggled with, the things we knew God wanted us to deal with in our lives.

God met us, as He always does when we are honest and hungry for Him. But beyond the confessions, God was doing something amazing as I realized how unusual it is for fathers and sons to “confess your sins one to another.”

It’s so easy to just live your life, and try to make your kids do right. God intervened and led the three of us, as men of God, into a divine moment of truthfulness and vunerability. Amazing how He does that.
